Hereke rugs originate from a region in Turkey near Istanbul. Traditionally, the nomadic people who crafted these rugs gifted them to Ottoman traders, merchants, or individuals associated with the palace community. In late Ottoman Empire, sultans have gifted these important rugs to messengers and ambassadors. This design pattern is known as "Yedi Dagin Çicegi" which can be translated into English as "Seven Mountains flowers".
